三焦者，谓上、中、下也。若上焦有热，则胸膈痞满，口苦咽干；有寒则吞酢而吐沫。

中焦有热，则身重目黄；有寒则善胀而食不消。下焦有热，则大便难；有寒则小腹痛而小便数。三焦之气，主焦熟水谷，分别清浊，若不调平，则生诸病。
